This edition has and introduction and explanatory notes by Edgar Wright. Gaskell's first novel, a portrait of working class life and social inequality in Victorian Manchester, was originally published in 1848. Mary Barton, the daughter of a disillusioned trade unionist and apprenticed to a dressmaker, is torn between two men. One belongs to the working class and one is the son of a mill owner.; Very light edgewear, page edges pale yellow; no spine or cover creases, pages clean. A very nice copy. ; While still quite busy with her current projects, Heidi Taylor, creator of the television productions "Call the Midwife" and "Cranford", amongst others, is also hoping to do a script based on this novel. Elizabeth Gaskell is one of Lyn B.'s (author of the 'I Prefer Reading' blog and member of the DoveGrey and DES email discussion groups) favourites. Image is actual copy on offer.
