The Brandons is considered by many Angela Thirkell fans to be among her finest. It is a book often recommended to those we wish to initiate into the joys of our beloved novelist. It is captivating. Where would we be without Mrs. Brandon and Noel Merton? They generate heated discussions.There is the camp that finds both dripping with charm and the camp that finds Mrs. Brandon a useless creature and Mr. Merton a cad.
