Spine lightly curved and creased, a few faint smudges to page edges. A nice copy.; This edition has a new preface by Harriet Lane. While waiting to hear if her husband has survived on his destroyer after it hits a mine, Mary remembers her life growing up in England between the wars; her attempts at drama school, her first serious love affair, and her happiness with her husband. A funny and sad novel writtin in 1940 that could be considered as contributing to the war effort, as did 'Mrs. Miniver'.
